You could try giving a positive compensation or use the flash, though the flash might have created an even stronger shade problem. The best solution in such conditions is to change the angle. Arthropods look better from the side anyway.
Still a nice shot. You may want to try clicking the shadow/highlight option once or even twice and see what it does to the harsh shades.

Great focus on something so little and hard to catch sometimes like it is a spider also great DOF feeling.. Lol..
IMO i would like to see a darker background or less distracting.. just my taste..
